MAC Dazzleshadow Liquid

Where I got it: I was at the MAC store in Botany Town Centre the other day checking out their new Supreme Beam collection and while I was heading to the counter to pay for the Hyper Real Foundation, I saw the little display for these Dazzleshadow Liquids. They are liquid eyeshadows that are much like the Stila Glitter & Glow or Shimmer & Glow liquid eyeshadows. MAC has bought these out and the shades are to stay (or so I’m told). There is already one shade sold out from the display is Diamond Crumbles which is a beautiful holographic blue with pink pearls. The collection has 10 shades in total and are in different formulations and effects – liquid metallics, holographic, duo-chrome, shimmery, sparkly, glittery, etc. They are fun to look at and fun to swatch as well! They are $46 each.

What I got: This is the NEW MAC Dazzleshadow Liquid in Not Afraid to Sparkle. An ultra-shiny liquid eyeshadow that glides across lids for a wash of brilliant colour that keeps its splendour. It’s cooling formula sets quickly for the ultimate second-skin texture that feels ultra-soft of lids.

How I find it: With liquid eyeshadows, I either apply directly onto my eye lids and tap with my fingertips or I blend with an eyeshadow brush. Some shades I would lay down a base colour, some shades I would use on its own. For a shimmery shade like this that has a clear base, it would be best to use it as a topper to make the colour pop.

Overall: The formula is pretty good, but since there is no base colour for this particular shade I have bought, it seems that the shadow faded after a few hours and got folded into my crease. I think getting a good base colour or an eyeshadow base is really important for the liquid shadow to adhere to.

I did a few swatches of these shimmery/glittery liquid eyeshadows as a quick comparison. The Stila one is more of a metallic glitter, but it is super fine and pigmented. This stays on my eyes for hours without crumbling! Followed by MAC which you can easily see my skin colour under the product and with a light wash of glitter. ColourPop also has a few liquid eyeshadows (Supernova) which looks great when swatched (however, they started out a little chunky), but when on the eyes they can be a little difficult to blend and they crumble and fade very fast (crumbling issue got worse as the product gets older, bits of the product fell off my eyes when I blink!).

Price-wise, MAC is the most expensive ($46), followed by Stila (NZS$38) and ColourPop is most affordable at around NZD $11 each.
