Maybelline Pure BB Mineral BB Mousse

Where I got it: I won this from a bid on eBay for $0.01. That’s right, $0.01 and it’s not a typo because I typed it twice! I just had to pay for shipping to NZ from Taiwan which is around $6.

What I got: This is a can of the Maybelline Pure BB Mineral BB Mousse in shade o1 Natural (translated from Japanese). Weightless mousse technology instantly creates beautiful skin and minimises pores. Lasting oil control. Anti-dull, and more translucent skin. Non-oily, and longer lasting results. Good for sensitive skin types. SPF30 PA+++.

How I find it: I have never tried a mousse foundation of BB cream before so this is quite a new experience. You simply shake well and press down on the pump to dispense the product. You only need a very small amount of this mousse because it is super pigmented and spread amazingly well. The mousse is very airy and when you press down on it, it feels foamier than mousse because the bubbles will turn into a watery consistency. The application is quite tricky and I tried a few different ways to apply this with not much success. I tried using my fingers, a sponge, and a foundation brush. It is very streaky on the skin and it needs a lot of blending to get this all blended out. You also need to be careful on the type of primer you use as it can bunch up with the wrong primer. I tested it out with a silicon-based primer and even though it did not bunch up, it didn’t’ mix very well with the BB mousse and all the product accentuated my pores. As soon as the mousse has dissipated and the product is exposed to air, it starts to oxidise. Initially, it looks quite pale, but as it oxidises it turns around 2 shades darker.

It also dries down very fast so you need to work really fast. A second layer of this doesn’t really work because the formula is quite watery but it dries down fast so if you use a second layer over the first layer that has already dried, it moves the base layer and that doesn’t look good at all.

Overall: As you can see the size of the product above, that is more than enough to cover my entire face. You really need to pay attention to blending the product because as it gets so watery on the skin, it can get quite streaky and move around. In my opinion, this has too many cons and pros so I really don’t like reaching for this at all. It is streaky, hard to apply, you need to work really quick and is quite difficult to blend out seamlessly. I think I will stick with BB cream or liquid products rather than mousse.
