Hylamide Low-Molecular HA Booster

Where I got it: I heard of this brand from Deciem where I got my NIOD Photography Fluid and Hylamide is not a brand that I have seen in New Zealand. Deciem and Hylamide is brand from Canada. I would have to admit that I am at least 40% attracted to the packaging of the products and that they are actually quite affordable and seems to be pretty effective. Initially, I was going to get their Pore Delete, but I was pretty much set to purchase Paula’s Choice 10% Niacinamide Booster, I decided I don’t need too much pore reducing products so I went for an HA booster for hydration. I ordered this directly from the Deciem website on 2/8/16 and it arrived on 8/8/16 from Australia which is super quick! It was free shipping as well. This set me back USD$26 which is about NZD$36. $36 for a serum is actually very affordable, to be honest.

What I got: This is a Hylamide Low-Molecular HA Booster. The claims: Hyper-strength rehydration serum with 5 forms of hyaluronic compounds with varying molecular weights.

Technology:

  • Very Low-Molecular HA: Offers rehydration with better topical absorption than ordinary HA
  • Hyaluronic Acid Ferment: Purified non-animal source hyaluronic acid for oil-free surface hydration
  • Hydrolyzed HA: Low-molecular form of HA to support lower to middle skin rehydration
  • HA Pre-Cursor: Novel technology acts as a precursor to HA and encourages a plump look
  • Plant HA: Tamarind-derived HA technology improves the look of skin elasticity

How I find it: It comes in a frosted glass bottle with a glass dropper (I believe this is the slightly newer packaging where the previous (pre-2016) comes in a clear glass bottle instead and looks a lot less viscous). The texture of the serum is quite viscous but when spread out with fingertips, it feels like a watery gel. I wonder if the temperature affects it because it is quite cold here now in the southern hemisphere. It is clear and has a rather distinctive scent – like yeast which is a bit annoying. However, the scent does dissipate after a short while. The serum is supposed to be used after cleansing and toning, you apply about 2-3 drops for the entire face, another drop can be used for the neck and decolletage area because you need to look after your neck and chest skin as well!! It spreads out easily and will be slightly tacky before it is fully absorbed which will be within a minute anyway. After it is absorbed, it doesn’t leave any residue on the skin and you can apply any other serums and moisturiser on top.

Overall: I have been applying this serum on the left side of the face, day and night for a week now and I actually don’t see much dramatic difference. I do the rest of my usual skincare routine to my entire face, but I just add 2 drops of this serum on my left side before my moisturiser. I have been using this for about 3 weeks now and it does hydrate my skin, but it runs out too fast! I use 2 drops day and night and I am close to 2/3 of my bottle already!! I love the hydration boost, but I still need to apply an oil over my moisturiser at night to seal in all the goodness. I think if you have oily or combination oily skin, you will love this. If you have dry skin, you will most likely need something a lot more moisturising. Not something I would repurchase before I run out, I might try their Pore Delete next time..
