The Body Shop Skin Defence Multi-protection Essence SPF50 PA++++

Where I got it: I bought this from The Body Shop in Botany Town Centre. It was RRP$49.95, but I had a $10 rewards voucher to use and they were having double points on offer as well so it came down to $39.95. It is not the most affordable sunscreen in the market, but I suppose due to the claims of the product, it should provide more than just a sunscreen. If you are looking for a good sunscreen, Za does some really good ones that are quite similar in terms of texture and the level of SPF.

What I got: This is a 40ml tube of The Body Shop Skin Defence Multi-Protection Essence with SPF50/PA++++. Sun protection isn’t just for the summer, it’s something that should be an essential part of everyone’s daily skincare regime. From the effects of the sun to the environment we live in – we’re constantly facing daily aggressors that lead to and accelerate premature ageing. Our Skin Defence Multi-Protection Essence SPF 50 PA++++, our strongest multi-protection to help protect your skin day after day. A feather light, milk-to-water essence with broad spectrum UV filters, brightening red algae and antioxidant Vitamin C, to help protect skin against multiple skin aggressors, while providing utmost comfort.

• UVA Protection: PA++++: Helps protect skin from UVA rays, including long UVA rays, which reach deep within the skin and accelerate the process of skin ageing.

• UVB protection: SPF 50 helps protect skin from UVB rays that trigger redness and damage the skin’s surface.

• Anti-oxidant: Helps protect skin from external aggressors such as environmental pollution that weakens the skin’s ability to remain healthy.

• Anti-dullness: With red algae extract and vitamin C to brighten skin for a more luminous complexion.

How I find it: I apply sun protection every day regardless if I go out or not, or if I apply foundation or not. I think sun protection is paramount and I use minimum SPF 30. After moisturiser, I apply an adequate amount of this multi-protection essence all over my face and neck. This is a rather fluid and milky textured sunscreen so I don’t really need to worry about apply too much and making my skin feel heavy and sticky like some sunscreen can do. Absorbs/dries down pretty quick without any sticky feeling so you can apply makeup pretty much right away.

Overall: Surprisingly lightweight, this multi-protection essence with SPF really does feel more like an essence or lotion instead of sunscreen. No white cast on the skin, it spreads easily and absorbs really quick. It hydrates my skin and does not leave a sticky or tacky residue on the skin. The slight floral scent makes it really pleasant to use and I think this will be a good replacement for my current sunscreen. However, at $50 for a tube of sunscreen it is a little bit expensive. However, with the added skincare benefits, you can think of it as more of a moisturiser with SPF. It will suit all skin types so if you have oily skin, you can use this as a moisturiser with SPF, but if you have dry skin, you can apply your usual moisturiser and add this on as sun protection. There is a slight downside to this essence is the alcohol content – when applied it smelled quite strong of alcohol and a slightly tingling sensation where I may have sensitive skin areas. The scent dissipates quickly and doesn’t really dry out my skin so I’m not too concerned. Overall I think this is a little over-priced for a sunscreen and I am sure The Body Shop does offer sunscreen that is more affordable but just does not provide protection for multiple environmental affects.
