Splashstore haul

Where I got it: I stumbled upon the Splashstore from a Facebook thread in a makeup group. Splashstore is a New Zealand company stocking brands like Maybelline, Loreal, NARS, Wet n Wild, NYX, etc. Their prices are really good and stock some products that are not yet available in New Zealand yet!

I made my order on … and it was supposed to be delivered early March, but it never got to me. For some reason someone must have stolen my parcel at my letterbox. 🙁 Splashstore was kind enough to follow it up with the courier company for me. At the end of the day, the courier company filed an insurance claim and Splashstore was able to replace my order! Unfortunately, one of the products I ordered was already sold out. I chose another product and they quicklt shipped out the products to me. I got my order within a week.

Splashstore Haul

What I got: I order a Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation in 75 Natural Beige, Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation in 75 Natural Beige and Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Tempress 400.

How I find it:

Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation in 75 Natural Beige (20ml for NZD$9.95). Maybelline’s Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation gives you a flawless look that gives you an impeccable finish. The breakthrough feature allows you to look natural because it fuses with your skin to make your make-up undetectable. You’ll only need a few drops to do your entire face—and that’s because one of the best things about Dream Wonder is the coverage level. It’s medium, or even full if you keep building. “The innovative element comes with the packaging of this foundation – the hard glass bottle has an ergonomic design which allows you to store and carry it easily, but what makes unique this foundation is its exclusive dropper – the tear drop-shaped applicator. It glides smoothly when applied on the skin, blends well either using fingers or a brush and gives me a nice, subtle ”no makeup” makeup look. You can build it up without looking cake-y or have that weird ”mask” feeling. This foundation has SPF 20, which is such a great thing to complete your already applied SPF face cream in the fight against sun damage. Medium to full coverage, ideal for normal skin.

Love this foundation – love the texture and the sheer to medium coverage. The shade is just right, but I don’t really like the packaging – I will still just put a finger over the opening and tip the foundation so I get a little bit on my fingertips each time then apply and blend right away. I like how it blends so effortlessly even with fingertips without streaks. I can create a sheer coverage for everyday wear to even out skintone, or I can build up to 2 layers for a medium coverage. I just use a concealor to hide imperfections. I do use a little bit more to dot around my undereye dark circles. Finish is a very natural petal-powder finish and is matte, but not dead matte.

Maybelline Dream Velvet Soft-Matte Hydrating Foundation in 75 Natural Beige (30ml for NZD$21.50). Maybelline’s first hydrating matte foundation for 100% velvet-smooth perfection. Unique gel-whipped formula. Ideal for normal to combination skin, medium coverage. Why You’ll Love It: This refreshing gel-whipped foundation leaves complexion perfected and smooth with a velvety, soft-matte finish while skin stays hydrated for 12 hours.

The texture of this foundation is like a whipped mousse. It is airy and creamy to the touch. However, I seem to have a bit of trouble blending this on my face and getting this to adhere on my face. It almost feels like my skin is so dry that the foundation is floating on the surface of my skin. I found out a way around this is apply a little bit more of moisturiser than I usually do or with a moisturising primer, then apply small amounts of this foundation. I don’t find that layer this foundation gives my skin a natural look. Almost too cakey. Have you had any similar results with this foundation? Please let me know how you combat this!

Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Tempress 400 (NZD$3.50). This lipstick was a little disappointing because of the shade and the scent. It has a really strong floral scent to which I can even taste when I purse my lips. I can’t stand it! The shade is quite a barbie pink which does not go well with my yellow skin-tone and pigmented lips. The formula is pigmented and creamy, but the shade and scent factor just puts me off big time. Big no-no for me, thank God I didn’t spend a fortune on it.

Overall: The 2 foundation I got were quite good, but I’m going to give the lipstick away. I do plan to order again from the Splashstore just because they do have really nice range and nice prices. If I do make another purchase, I will be posting it on Instagram so follow me there!
