Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque

Where I got it: I was out shopping with my sister the other weekend and we took a visit to the Kiehl’s shop down in Britomart, Auckland CBD. The person who served me (I met her again and found out her name – Christina) was so nice and they are more than welcome for you to sit down and do a skincare consultation with you (needless to say, they give you samples to try!). First she finds out what your skin type is by using 2 tabs on your face, 1 on the forehead and one on your cheeks. Then according to your main concerns, she will line up a skincare regime for you including a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser and treatment products like a mask. Kiehl’s is available from the flagship boutique in Britomart, Smith and Caughey’s, Ballantynes and Kirkcaldie & Stains. This is RRP $58.00.

What I got: This is a tub of Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque instantly boosts skin’s ability to absorb and hold moisture for sustained hydration. Formulated with Ophiopogon Japonicus Extract, also known as “Fountain Plant, ” the formula helps amplify the hydration provided by a daily moisturizer. Applied before bed, Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque replenishes skin’s water reserves, allowing it to retain moisture and function like a “hydration reservoir.” The formula, with pro-hydration glacial proteins and desert plant extracts, helps protect and reinforce the skin barrier – boosting hydration levels and leaving skin smoother and softer, refreshed and supple.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque

How I find it: I use this masque about it 1-2 times a fortnight or when I feel my skin is really dry especially after using a clay mask. Recommended to be used half an hour before bedtime, after cleansing and toning, I would apply a serum (Currently using Kiehl’s Overnight Recovery Concentrate), then I would apply this mask all over my face. I scoop the product out with a small spatula and dot on my forehead, cheeks and chin area. Then spread it around my face avoiding eye area. The mask looks and feels almost like aloe vera gel but cloudy. Upon application, my skin feels slight greasy, tacky and shiny on the appearance. I guess that is why she recommended that I use it right before I go to bed. After about 15 minutes, the tacky feeling is still there but and my skin no longer look shiny. I love to use this on the back of my hand too for some reason! In the morning, I just wash my face as usual.

Overall: I absolutely love the texture of this mask – gel-like fresh feeling on the skin. It doesn’t dry out my skin after application but its not greasy either. It keeps to hydration in the skin without letting it evaporate in the atmosphere. However, be careful not to use too much or too thick because it can take a while to ‘set’ and it will be tacky and stick your face to your pillow… So a thin, even layer will do just fine. Overnight, my skin feels supple and hydrated. Pores are smaller and my skin is less oily when I wake up. This is a big tub and will last forever! I will definitely keep using this.
