Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light

Where I got it: I got this on ebay.com for USD$71.00 (approx NZD$90 including shipping). On the Hourglass website, this is USD$45, but they only ship within the US. This is NZD$82.00 from Mecca Cosmetica (which I JUST found out!!! ARGH! Should’ve checked beforehand!).

What I got: I got the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Diffused Light. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder comes in a total of 6 shades – Ethereal Light, Diffused Light, Dim Light, Mood Light, Luminous Light and Radiant Light. Diffused light is a soft warm, pale yellow powder that reduces skin redness and gives skin clarity – like a soft ray of morning light. Just what I need for the redness on my cheeks and my dull skin. I would also like to get the Dim Light as well.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder – Diffused Light

How I find it: After I have done all my makeup (including eye makeup, but excluding lips. I like to do my lips when I hop out the door because I always grab a few glasses of water after getting ready), I would use this ambient lighting powder. I have previously used a smaller blush brush to apply this, but I don’t seem to be seeing much difference. So I switched to a larger soft kabuki brush (Inika Kabuki brush) to dip it into the compact gently (without swirling), I just get a thin layer of the powder on the brush and I buff it into my skin. I find that it gives a better layer on my face and it doesn’t waste any product. Sometimes I would use it on my entire face, sometimes I would focus on the area where I would apply my highlighter (cheekbones, bridge of my nose and bit of my forehead). There are many ways and combinations to use this powder and this is the way I find best for myself.

Overall: Loving this powder, it is so finely milled and the shimmer is so fine that it is basically undetectable unless closely inspected. But when applied, it does make a difference on the face. You just gotta try it on the face to see the results. Trying it on the back of your hand doesn’t really make you fall in love, but you could feel the texture of the powder.  If you have any different ways of using this powder (type of brush, technique), please do share. I would love to try out other ways of using this lovely powder!

Great post! I bought the Hourglass palette at the end of last year and use different brushes for the different powders. For using it like a finishing powder I use the Real Techniques Multi Task Brush. It’s not too massive so it concentrates the powder where you need it most.

Oh great! I really like this powder and they are having the blushes too! I am planning on getting some real techniques brushes as well!

Great review! I’ve been so tempted to buy this from Mecca, but since it’s quite pricey I was wondering if it was worth it. Maybe I will have to invest! Do you think it would last quite a while?

I personally love my Diffused Light and I am planning to get more. The quality is just really good so I reckon it was worth the investment. I did see it cheaper on ebay than mecca, but some people don’t have faith in buying on ebay. You don’t need to use alot, I am using it everyday pretty much as an all over finishing powder and I haven’t even made a dent! If you are using it at a highlighter, then it will last you much longer. I’m sure you will love it just get a shade that will suit your skin tone and/or what you want to achieve. :>
